We Finally Made It to Florida!
We arrived in Freeport, Florida on a mild evening, set up our RV and called it good for the evening. It was the Christmas holiday and the weather was a little cold and rainy, so we ended up just taking it easy by making a nice, large Christmas dinner. While we relaxed, we also took the time to catch up on a few things…like getting ready for tax season. Ugh!
A lesson we learned in Louisiana, came in very handy as we ventured into the interior of Florida. A marsh is grassy, has no trees, and in the coastal areas, occurs near the mouth of the river as it flows into the ocean; a bayou is in a low-lying area, yet has a body of water that moves, albeit very slowly; a swamp is a forested wetland where the water does not move and tends to be more brackish. Of course, with the amount of rain Florida was experiencing, swampy was the word of the day.
The coasts offered the antithesis to the interior. They were an opportunity to emerge from the dense vegetation, and dry out while being lulled by the waves. Unwinding and relaxing, in a surprisingly human-free manner, was possible at each of the beaches! Of course, we also experienced everything in between, as Florida offers something for everyone.
