What can we say about this location, other than “THERE IS EVIDENCE OF ALIEN INVASIONS”! Stopping at the Roswell Visitor Center first was a great way to plan our attack, and not surprisingly, you can have a photo of yourself taken with a real alien! No need to hunt for one. As we set out, we didn’t know what to expect, yet within walking distance from each other, the historic downtown area holds much of the draw. Don’t worry, there are also a number of things to do that are not specifically alien focused, such as the Roswell Museum and Art Center, which has the Robert H. Goddard exhibit chronicling the development of rocketry as one of their many exhibits. Yet we mostly stuck to the extraterrestrial theme, since it was our first visit.
Of course a “must see” on our list was the International UFO Museum and Research Center to get the real truth! There was a lot of reading involved while walking through this museum, as it documents the daily events around the “Roswell incident”. Much of it isn’t widely publicized. Seems like there is a lot more to this event than most understand! Think about adding it to your journeys before you make up your mind…
We also went to an attraction called Spaceport Roswell, which plunges you into a virtual reality. This was our first experience with using VR goggles, and I do have to admit….IT WAS REALLY COOL! Make sure to look all around, including above and below, because the experience is a 360-degree immersion. But hold onto your seat the first time the animation starts moving!! We almost fell off our stools, since the sensation felt so real.
Taking a break at UFO McDonald’s
Finally, it was so hot out that we had to get a few shakes. Where else would one go?!?! The most famous restaurant in Roswell, the UFO McDonald’s of course!! Truly out of this world!
“The greenish-blue color created by aquatic plants, gives the lakes the illusion of great depth.”

The campground at Bottomless Lakes State Park near Roswell, is a hidden gem. While we stayed there, the park was in the final stages of being updated, further providing many amenities within the campground, creating an enjoyable camping experience.
The name of the park is derived from the “bottomless” lakes that are actually a grouping of sinkholes that have filled with water, with a few of them being very large and varying in salinity. The largest of these sinkholes is 90 feet deep and the campground borders one of it’s shorelines.
Activities that you can do at this little lake include everything from kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, swimming, fishing, picnicking and even scuba diving! While this state park is very compact, there are a few pleasant walking and biking trails that include informational and interpretive signs that wind through the park, connecting several of the sinkholes with nice viewing overlooks!
The Bluff Trail from the campground is an easy hike or cycle, touring the Bottomless Lakes sinkholes.

Overall, Roswell was the perfect landing spot for us to start our adventures. We were able to begin to decompress, regroup, and enjoy seeing the sights. It’s not just a place to fly past, as the aliens know well!!

Love the friends you’re making along the way! Just wondering, seriously: did visiting Roswell change your perception in any way about life beyond planet Earth?
To answer your question, it really didn’t change my mind that “we are not alone” as I always believed, based just on statistics and probabilities, there has to be other intelligent life out there somewhere. What it did do, is clearly identify there is “a lot” more information regarding the Roswell incident than I ever knew….interesting reading.
McDonald’s? Now there’s an alien environment if there ever was one. Looks like you had a great time!
Lots ‘n lots of love and virtual hugs, DAD
And this one actually had one right in the lobby to greet us!! Love you!
