Canada

This is our version of Planes, Trains and Automobiles ……… getting to Canada!

Our two day adventure to the city of Victoria on Vancouver Island involved a few different modes of transportation, one of which was new to us, the Victoria Clipper ferry! The first day, we flew out of Durango, Colorado (we live in nearby Pagosa Springs, CO) to Seattle, Washington. After arriving at SeaTac (Seattle-Tacoma International Airport), we took the Link Light Rail to our hotel in Downtown Seattle, an adventure in itself! If you have a little extra time, and like to people-watch, we certainly recommend it. Staying overnight in the downtown Seattle area afforded us the opportunity to spend a little time stretching our legs, strolling around the Pike Place Market with plentiful restaurant, bar and entertainment offerings; we chose Seatown Rub Shack & Fish Fry. The food was delicious, drinks were cold and tasty, and the atmosphere along the waterfront was fun and invigorating!

Early the next morning, anyone observing us was treated to a comedy show as we manhandled our luggage up and down the hilly streets of Seattle to Pier 69, where the Victoria Clipper is docked. Forget the gym, this jaunt got our blood pumping. Checking in went smooth, and we settled into the Comfort Class section on the top deck, anticipating the voyage from Elliot Bay in Seattle, across the Juan de Fuca Straight, into the Victoria Inner Harbour. Little did we know that an exhilarating welcome awaited us as we approached the mouth of the outer harbor. We were more than a little surprised to watch as a sea plane accelerated toward us, taxiing out of the harbor, and taking off right in front of the ferry, flying directly overhead!

Overall, the trip was under three hours, even when needing to slow down a few times for pods of porpoising Killer Whales; we enjoyed every minute of it. The Clipper was certainly relaxing and revitalizing, the crown jewel to our transportation odyssey.

    1. Glad you guys like it! Thanks so much for the kuddos. I think the pure fact that we want to share our experiences, it forces us to think about the adventures and events in a new light. A far cry from the contracts and technical writings of the previous chapters of our life! Love you guys!

    Great blog, Sweetheart,
Much has changed yet much remains the same since I last visited Victoria in the 60s with Nana and Sam Byers. Looking forward to reading/seeing your other journeys.
