The Great State of Texas

Where Everything Is Bigger…..And Lots To Do!

We’ve all heard the saying, “Everything is Bigger in Texas”, and after traveling through this state I would certainly have to agree. This state is absolutely HUGE! As one might expect, covering so much land mass, it has a geographic biodiversity that might just be unmatched by any other state in the lower 48, ranging in extremes from the Chihuahuan Desert to a tropical island, and everything in between.  Yep, you heard me correctly, this state has an island that is actually categorized as a tropical island…South Padre island!

We identified a number of locations to visit in Texas, while winding our way south. The sheer size of Texas didn’t really hit us until after crossing the western border near the Guadalupe Mountains, south of New Mexico, and driving over 1,000 miles to reach the southern tip of Texas at South Padre Island! It has to be meted out in bite-sized pieces.

So far in our journey, we have been enjoying hikes along mountainous desert trails, observing a variety of wildlife, relaxing along the shores of Falcon Lake while casting out a few fishing lines, and stargazing all along the way. And let’s not forget to mention eating at a variety of restaurants, enjoying the local cuisine!

There’s lots to come so stay tuned for more adventures within Texas!
